Sevra Davis

Sevra Davis is Director of the RSA Student Design Awards. A dedicated champion of design for social good, Sevra spent 10 years working in industry as an architect and urban designer before joining the RSA in 2010.  During her time at the helm, Sevra has led the development of the competition to include workshops, mentoring opportunities, and an annual ‘roadshow’ introducing the briefs to universities in the UK and internationally. She has consulted on design education for international government clients, and frequently speaks on a wide range of topics around designing for social impact, design thinking, and open innovation.

Rebecca Ford

Rebecca Ford is the UK Manager of the RSA Student Design Awards. Rebecca is passionate about the potential of human-centred design to tackle complex issues. Having previously worked as a project lead at youth innovation agency Bold Creative, she joined the team in 2013 and leads on the UK delivery and expansion of the RSA Student Design Awards. Rebecca is a trustee of youth arts charity Phakama, and co-founded Digital Disruption, a project that empowers young people to engage critically with the internet.

Janet Hawken

Janet Hawken is Senior Coordinator in the RSA’s Action and Research Centre (ARC - the department the RSA Student Design Awards sits within), and works across all its projects. She has played a key role in administering the RSA Student Design Awards for the past 12 years, and currently coordinates the judging process and University visits. Janet has extensive design sector experience – in the past she worked at the Design Council and the BFI, and studied Fashion and Textiles at University.

Ellie Lanham Ellie Lanham is a Graphic Designer and creative thinker. Currently Ellie is an intern at the RSA Student Design Awards, a curriculum and competition that challenges emerging designers to apply their skills to social issues. She is a past winner of the RSA Student Design Awards and is a strong believer in the power of design.

Melanie Andrews - Manager of the RSA’s Royal Designers for Industry

Melanie Andrews

Melanie Andrews is Manager of the RSA’s Royal Designers for Industry, a multi-disciplinary group of designers appointed ‘RDI’ by the RSA for sustained excellence and significant benefit to society. She develops initiatives with them that add value to the RSA’s programme of work and runs the annual RDI Summer School for creative thinkers. A member of the design team since 2001, Melanie has worked on a broad range of projects where design is used to solve contemporary social challenges including the RSA Student Design Awards, Action for Age, and Design & Rehabilitation.

Selina Nwulu

Selina Nwulu Selina Nwulu is a researcher with the Creative Learning and Development Team. She has worked on a variety of projects at the RSA, most recently a report on supplementary schools and their role in increasing life outcomes for black and minority ethnic children in the UK. She has previously worked at UNIFEM, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and a number of environmental think tank and charity organisations on a variety of policy, research and public affairs roles. She has an MSc in education and social policy (achieving a distinction) at Birkbeck, university of London. She is a poet and writer and has written for a number of newspaper outlets including the Guardian. She is currently Young Poet Laureate for London.
